Companies should ideally understand their business processes in terms of information (not just money)
Imagine a sole trader gardener before ICT
- information about past and present clients: maybe in head
- evidence of expertise: by word of mouth only
- skills: learned from few people, trial and error
- current job progress: in head
- marketing: by word of mouth or yellow pages
- suppliers: a fixed few nurseries, stores, etc.
- accounts with suppliers: on suppliers’ records if anywhere
